ROVER Trailer Approvals & RVSA Compliance

Kadtec Engineering provides ROVER trailer approval and RVSA compliance assistance for manufacturers, fabricators and individuals supplying trailers to the Australian market.

We can assist with Vehicle Type Approvals (VTAs), Concessional RAV Entry (CRE) approvals and the engineering documentation required to demonstrate compliance with applicable Australian Design Rules (ADRs).

Our services cover both light and heavy trailers, including tiny home trailers, plant trailers, machinery trailers, tag trailers, semi-trailers, caravans and other custom trailer applications.

ROVER Trailer Approvals

ROVER is the Australian Government’s online system used to manage approvals under the Road Vehicle Standards legislation.

Kadtec Engineering can assist with the engineering and compliance requirements associated with obtaining approval for a new trailer or trailer range.

Our services can include:

  • Review of the proposed trailer design
  • Identification of applicable ADR requirements
  • Preparation of engineering calculations
  • CAD and technical drawings
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Drawbar engineering and ADR 62/02 compliance
  • Brake system assessment
  • Lighting and dimensional compliance
  • Preparation of ADR compliance evidence
  • Preparation of ROVER documentation
  • Assistance with submission of ROVER applications
  • Assistance responding to requests for further information

Vehicle Type Approvals – VTA

A Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) allows a manufacturer or importer to supply an approved trailer type to the Australian market.

Kadtec can assist trailer manufacturers in developing the engineering and compliance documentation required to support a Vehicle Type Approval application.

This can include assessment of individual trailer models and variants, as well as development of documentation suitable for a manufacturer’s wider trailer range.

Concessional RAV Entry – CRE

A Concessional RAV Entry approval provides an alternative approval pathway for eligible individual or low-volume trailers.

Kadtec can assist with determining the applicable engineering requirements and preparing the drawings, calculations and ADR compliance evidence required to support the application.

Light & Heavy Trailer Compliance

Kadtec provides ROVER and RVSA engineering support for both:

Low ATM trailers – up to 4.5 tonnes ATM

High ATM trailers – greater than 4.5 tonnes ATM

The applicable requirements vary depending on trailer category, configuration, ATM and intended use.

Kadtec can review the trailer and identify the relevant ADRs and supporting engineering evidence required for the approval pathway.

Engineering & ADR Compliance Documentation

A ROVER application may require supporting evidence demonstrating that the trailer complies with the applicable Australian Design Rules.

Kadtec can prepare individual engineering documents or a complete compliance documentation package.

Depending on the trailer, this may include:

  • Structural calculations
  • Drawbar calculations and FEA
  • Brake calculations
  • CAD drawings
  • Dimensional drawings
  • Lighting layouts
  • Component specifications
  • ADR compliance assessments
  • Technical reports

Where an existing design does not satisfy the applicable requirements, we can also assist with practical design modifications.

Complete ROVER Application Assistance

Kadtec can assist at any stage of the ROVER approval process.

This may involve preparation of a single engineering document, review of an existing application or preparation of the complete engineering and compliance documentation package.

We can also assist clients with the submission and management of ROVER applications.
