CAD / FEA
One of the primary functions of 3D CAD models is their utilisation in simulation analyses like FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
FEA involves evaluating a representative 3D CAD model of an actual component or assembly of components against virtual loads or forces applied to it. Compared to physical testing, which can be costly and time-intensive, FEA is often preferred.
Physical testing may require multiple iterations of design, production, and testing until a compliant design is achieved, potentially leading to excessive engineering or added weight.
In contrast, FEA generates results rapidly, allowing for an iterative design process to efficiently develop a model that not only fulfills its intended purpose but also meets strength and fatigue requirements.
